Took 7 hours for my quad-core to process! Cool, will try other displacement maps.
Here’s another version, which only took 10 minutes! because I lowered the frame delay to 1.5 seconds rather than 5 seconds. 1.5 seconds is about 120-some frames to process per frame as opposed to 5×60 = 300 frames per displaced frame.
So ghostly, phantomy. It’s gimmicky, but cool.
