As cool as it sounds, I think it hasn’t caught on because it’s too fragile. Imagine, according to the article, that entire 360 Terabytes of data GONE because you’re dog knocked it off the desk, or you were getting your hanky panky on and sat on it, or something more stupid.

That’s why USB sticks caught on because consumers are idiots and prone to accidents, and USB sticks are TOUGH little buggers.

Whatever new media storage technology comes out next, it’s going to have to be flexible and indestructable, but at the same time also capable of storing a lot of data. It might look something like plastic tape.

Because, if my understanding is correct, modern access to digital storage is always via electricity. It’s all about having that electrical charge or not, the universal and tried-and-true “binary” data structure. Unless you can control black holes and store data at 3D coordinates in time-space, you’ll only be able to store data on something material or utilizing nano-technology.

I really want a portable camera like Pivothead’s hands-free eyeglass camera, but it’s just too bulky. Why does it look like something X-Men’s Cyclops would wear?

So I thought of what the current technologies goes into the Pivothead: USB for transferring into PC, wireless transceiver, SSD storage, etc.

I don’t care too much about LEDs and stuff yet, so I just want to focus on storage.

And nowadays, storage is INCREDIBLY SMALL. Look at those literal thumbnail (or even booger size) flash cards we use in our mobile phones. So if those things can hold huge amounts of data in their compact size, why not take it a step further.

I think they can stretch those microSD cards into cables and still accomplish the same thing. If my understanding is correct, it’s all about holding a charge to represent binary data. So find a way to hold the charge in cable form. Mayhaps, this is where carbon fibers might come in handy.

So if this works, then an eye glass camera would just store it’s data inside the actual frame or temples.

The power source, would be in the camera area. Something like that.

Comic book character Dick Tracy was already sporting this gimmick back in the day, but now consumers will have the ability to play it cool, too, with Samsung’s new Galaxy Gear, a smart watch. (more…)
