Man, that looks like fun. I wish I could raise that kind of money to make fun of politics. I’m serious.
So, I wonder how it works? Ironically, it really is because of Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, and their media connections that us commoners even know what a Super PAC is. Pretty much, a Super PAC is a group of investors that throw their money at a US Presidential election campaign. However, the presidential candidate must not be in cahoots with the investors. Also, the investor’s names have to be disclosed if they donate more than $250 each. Colbert (pronounced coal bear) raised a million bucks! And most of those were anonymous donors. Anyone can donate.
Now, I have no celebrity power like they do, but what if I, Joe Nobody, wanted to do the same? I think you have to disclose to with the Federal Election Committee if you raise more than $50,000 aimed at endorsing any one presidential candidate. I can’t even raise $20 from donors, so where do I start?
I wonder if I could raise a Batman-sized budget like $300 million to make a political thriller?
