Russians pay USD$860 for Japanese Square Watermelon

There’s nothing special about “square” watermelons. They are regular watermelons, except they are grown into a square mold so the shape becomes square-ish.

According to the article, Russians were buying them for $700! Now the price has skyrocketed to $860! Who pays that kind of money for watermelon?

Is the novelty worth that much?

What’s stranger is if they do that for hundreds of thousands of years, the watermelon DNA might actually mutate to start becoming a cube. But that’s just my theory.
